MY WORK...

Welcome to my portfolio! Here is a collection of all my work, most is drawing/animation-based but also inclusive of other media types projects...

VIDEOS

A quick short where I used FlipaClip to experiment with the Principles of Animation (namely squash and stretch, anticipation and exaggeration) to make a fun little video where the weird guy just does what the weird guy does.

A short trailer for our upcoming documentary ‘Boyhood: Young & Trans’ - a look into the lives of young transmasculine people through a series of interviews in order to highlight the reality of the lives of many transgender individuals. ‘Boyhood’ has been a college-made collaboration; directed by myself, and produced and edited by my peer Liam Leslie, with sound and camera operating by other peers Nate Thomason and Isabel Taylor.

As an additional project, my friend Liam Leslie and I took it upon ourselves to create some promotional material for an upcoming Threewise feature film 'Trolled.' We decided to create an animation that had an infomercial format to be funny but also informative. We chose a paper-cutout stop-motion style as this was the most accessible and straight forward to animate. We filmed it with Stop Motion Studio and edited it on Adobe Premier Pro, with me writing and directing and both of us animating.

Made for a challenge where we each had to create a short film based on a classic painting, this is based off of Vincent Van Gogh's painting 'The Chair.' Directed by Liam Leslie, cinematography and score by Nate Thomason, sound by Bell Taylor, and I myself did the lighting as the gaffer - as well as this particular edit...

I created this short animation test by using Adobe Animate within only a couple of days of using the software - being self-taught in key animation principles and techniques.

'Boo Hoo!' has been my very first 2D animated film for my personal college project: created on Adobe Animate - a software that I self-taught myself how to use. So far, I'm learning as I go along, but for where I've started, I'm happy with how it's turning out. Here is my rough cut - a quick assembly of what I have so far that pretty much sums it up. Now to animate those last scenes, sync SFX, music and add some credits so I can thank everyone who's helped me out through this tough but rewarding journey! Hoping to finish the Final Cut in the next couple of days...

SHORTS

As my college was collaborating with the Old Rep to produce the Peter Pan Musical over the Christmas period, I was part of a team to work on the Audio/Visual effects for the projections of Tinker Bell. This was lead by a theatre professional, Will Monks - and each of us received a technical credit for our contributions. I created this design on After Effects with the additional Red Giant Pluggin. I based my design around the scene where Tink is dying from the poison - hence the ill-green colour as well as the flickering and dimming of opacity.

My third attempt at drawing Jude was to create a digital version that made improvements on my notes from my previous drafts on paper (see below in Images). I used Procreate and experimented with a range of pencils and pens to make a well-shaded piece that mirrored a paper-drawn sketch.

CREATIVE WRITING

After much consideration, I decided to write an animated screenplay film because it is the medium I want to work with in my future career, and because I feel that there are gaps within the animation market that would be filled with my screenplay. As most animated films are, my screenplay is targeted at a child and family audience, but I believe that in children’s media in general, there is a lack of content that deals with more mature themes such as grief, isolation, and the difficult search for identity. This inspired me to form a screenplay that does tackle these themes in a safe and light-hearted way that would delicately introduce a child to these human complexities. Although this is the primary audience, I wanted my screenplay to appeal to people of all ages, and I believe science fiction was the best genre to do this as it has always been a creative vessel to ask powerful questions about what it means to be human. Another gap in the market that I would resolve through my screenplay would be the lack of representation of genderqueer, and particularly, non-binary characters; a trend I discovered in content targeting any demographic. I would do this via my protagonist, HASH, a non-binary android.
